Scientists in China have developed a robot which can play badminton against a human opponent — and it’s got some pretty incredible skills.
The Robomintoner is being marketed as the ultimate solution for players wanting to improve their game whenever they cannot find a racquet partner.
The clever device, which has a maximum speed of four metres per second, uses an HD camera and a binocular vision system to ‘see’ the shuttlecock and predict its movements.
Its creators, based in Chengdu City, claim it has an 80 per cent success rate when returning a shot. The robot’s settings can even be adapted for singles or doubles matches.
The days of needing a partner to enjoy a game of tennis or badminton could soon be a thing of the past.
